Every time I buy a new computer, I go through extraordinary levels of hassle copying files from the old computer to the new one, and this time I am determined to do something smarter. I heard from a friend that since I use Time Machine (actually, I have a Time Capsule for network backups) that when I get my new MacBook I can just tap the Time Machine backup of my existing system and have it restore every single file and config onto the new system and have it a perfect clone. Rockin’. How do I do that??
How To Create Bookmark Folders Within Safari

I’m trying to organize the million bookmarks I have on my “Bookmarks” menu in Apple’s Safari 4 but can’t figure it out. I see “Show All Bookmarks” and various ways to add a bookmark on the menu, but no way to “manage” or “organize” bookmarks. Surely there’s a way to do so in Safari?
How To Completely Reformat and Reinstall OSX
Dave Taylor June 5th, 2009Follow me on Twitter:

I just completely reformatted and restored my laptop and am now hitting the error “This backup is too large for the backup volume. The backup requires 95.9 GB but only 63.2 are available” when I try to use Time Machine to back up to my Apple Time Capsule network backup device. This stinks: I need to be able to keep backing things up!
I talked with a few people and they suggest that the easiest solution is to wipe the Time Capsule drive and start over. How do I do that?

Apple Again Delves Into Gaming Through Apple TV
Dave Taylor May 14th, 2009Follow me on Twitter:

I’m not the only person to remember the ill-fated Apple Pippin, launched in conjunction with gaming company Bandai in the mid-1990s. Yes, you might be surprised, not everything with an Apple logo on it is a success.
But quite a bit has changed since then, perhaps the most important of which is the tremendous success of the gaming side of the iPhone Application Store. How important is that? Check out the following quote from this Reuters article:
How To Read Disks On MacBook Air
Dave Taylor April 30th, 2009Follow me on Twitter:

I’m helping my Dad out with installing some software on his MacBook Air but since he didn’t spend the money to buy the additional external CDROM drive, I’m kind of stuck. Is there some sneaky way to read CDROM or DVD disks on the Air even though there’s no drive actually hooked up?

For those of you that just want to know if it works or not (see part 1), the answer is yes. Yes! It works! Gladly, I didn’t order the various hardware and software components for nothing. I can now watch digital (HD) television, movies and listen to music on the Mac mini using a single remote.

How To Add Digital TV To A Mac Mini
Martijn de Visser April 2nd, 2009Follow me on Twitter:

I’m probably one of the last Mohicans, but I still watch tv on an old 4:3 television set. It isn’t even worthy of calling it a set. It’s just an old CRT tube. Also, I watch tv using the analogue cable signal. No digital High Definition shows for me.

Successfully Upgrading Time Capsule On Your Mac

I’ve become a big fan of my Apple Time Capsule. WIth the Time Machine backup software, it lets me keep all of my computers backed up without ever having to think about it, which is awesome! I just read about a firmware upgrade, however, and am baffled: how do I upgrade the device?

Burning A CD In ITunes For Mac
Dave Taylor February 12th, 2009Follow me on Twitter:

My kids are really into High School Musical and Miley Cyrus, to the point where we bought them the soundtrack and they promptly broke the CD squabbling over it. I know I could buy a couple more but that’s pretty expensive! Is there a way to just use iTunes to dupe a music CD so they could listen to the copy and we’d keep their Hannah Montana music (etc) safely stored away?
