Windows Getting Movies Before The IPod

The Starz cable channel plans to unveil its Vongo service, which will allow subscribers to download movies to portable video players.
There won't be an iPod option for Vongo users, as the service will online work with Windows PCs and portable devices using Windows Media Center software. Apple does not license the Fairplay digital rights management software (DRM) it uses for iTunes content.
The Starz website lists films such as "Sin City," "Hitch," and "Herbie: Fully Loaded" among those available for Vongo subscribers who pay $9.99 per month. Certain pay-per-view titles will be available for $3.99 per movie, additionally.
Along with Microsoft, Starz will have Sony as a partner. Sony will again attempt to revive its Connect content-delivery brand, this time as a video service to debut later in 2006. Vongo will be part of Sony's Connect video.
Starz touts its relationships with several Hollywood studios, including Walt Disney Pictures. Disney has a close relationship with Apple, as Disney CEO Bob Iger was on hand when Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced the video iPod release.
Iger then disclosed that episodes of Disney's ABC shows "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives" would be available on iTunes. However, the Disney-Apple partnering has not extended to feature-length movies yet, as Starz plans to make available via Vongo.
