Apple Update Breaks 64-Bit Applications

A recent security update to the Mac OS X platform has inexplicably rendered 64-bit apps unusable.
Cupertino, we have a problem.
Unfortunately for users of 64-bit applications on Mac OS X, that problem means a non-functioning application, according to MacCentral. And unlike the movie Apollo 13, duct tape isn't going to help here.
The article cites issues with the Mathematica program. After running the latest security update, the program does not work in 64-bit mode any more. Its publisher, Wolfram Research, has had to issue a workaround for its program that will let it run in 32-bit mode instead.
Apple has pulled the security update from its site, but has not yet provided any more information on the issue or progress on its resolution.
