After seeing huge growth in its third quarter numbers, Apple has provided an update to its OS X operating system to 10.4.2.
Apple has provided a new update to the client and server versions of its Tiger operating system. Tiger users can get the new version via the Software Update system preference pane.
One important fix closes a potential denial of service vulnerability. Systems without TCP/IP filtering were vulnerable to specially formed packets that could cause a kernel panic and require rebooting the machine.
And a fix for Dashboard will let users know if a new widget will be overwriting an existing Apple widget with the same internal identifier. Otherwise the user may not know they are running a user-defined widget instead of an Apple one, which could present a security problem.
Apple has provided some minor fixes for Airport, Mail, iChat, and other applications and functions. On the server side, the update improves support for Open Directory and Windows Server 2003 Active Directory systems.
