Google Shows Mac Users The Widget Love

Three Dashboard Widgets from the talented engineers at Google offer Mac users some extra Google functionality in OS X.

Google has spent a lot of time and effort developing products for the Windows platform. Given the dominance Microsoft has on computers worldwide, Google's desire to target the broadest audience possible makes business sense.

That hasn't made Mac users very happy, though. For a long time, the only Google application for Mac was the Gmail Notifier that a Google engineer created in his 20 percent project time. Google Earth for Mac later debuted, on the same day Steve Jobs keynoted the most recent MacWorld conference.

Now, as Jobs would say, there's one more thing. Actually three, courtesy of Google, which posted the good news in the Official Blog:

The Blogger Widget enables quick and easy posting to your blog. Checking your Gmail inbox becomes a matter of pressing F12 with the Gmail Widget. And the Search History Widget allows you find that website you saw last week while searching Google. We'd also like to acknowledge the many great Google widgets people have already created, available on the Apple downloads page.

Also, Google is hiring people to build applications for the Mac. Job postings for developers and senior developers on the Mac platform have been placed online.

And one more thing: here is a link to the Heading East blog, and its list of ten programs for the Mac users may not know about but could find useful.
