Creates More Buzz

A mysterious invitation sent to reporters on Monday says Apple will make a major
announcement on September 7.
San Francisco's Moscone Center will be the arena as Apple CEO and master of buzz
Steve Jobs hosts a "special event." SiliconValley.com notes the invitation evokes
memories of the iPod introduction: "1,000 songs in your pocket changed everything.
Here we go again."
Speculation immediately focused on two products. One would be the long-awaited
iTunes phone made by Motorola. The FCC recently gave its blessing to the E790
device, and Motorola has been desperate to introduce the device publicly.
Apple has a small reputation for wanting to control those type of product debuts,
and using a splashy and stylish forum with Mr. Jobs at the center would be in
line with previous Apple product announcements.
Other sources contend that music industry insiders believe the video iPod will
arrive. As a Hollywood insider, Mr. Jobs has been negotiating for the right to
sell music videos via iTunes. Reportedly, at least one record label is on board
with the idea.
It's entirely possible Apple could introduce both devices, and much speculating
will take place. Another purely speculative idea could have Apple announcing an
OEM deal to put the Mac OS X on PCs made by a firm like Dell. Or it could be something
completely different, like the return of the Newton PDA as a Blackberry competitor.
They'd probably call it the iMail.
