A little help with inadvertant shutdown I am currently working on a HP 742C home PC. The problem is it shuts down either durring startup or minutes after startup. I tried Removing the PCI cards, thinking it was a PCI problem on the motherboard...
CSS and Cache When I enter a site (like this) the page appears fine, but once I start to navigate through the site, the CSS stylesheet is not being called from the cache and all styling on the site disappears unless I click 'Refresh'.
Outlook .pst File too Large to Manage One of my co-workers has grown his Outlook .pst file to 1.99 gigs (apparently he’s very popular). Outlook’s limit for .pst (prior to the 2003 release) is 2 gigs and I am unable to manipulate this file to shrink it using Outlook.

Apple Vaults To The Top In Brand Recognition A survey of almost 2000 people has revealed Apple as the top, most recognizable brand name, replacing search engine Google.
According to brandchannel.com, the company who conducted the survey, Apple's owes their recognition success to in part to iPod and iTunes. As portable media players become the norm, look for Apple's position to solidify. Of course, considering the popularity of Google, it's easy to foresee these two flip-flopping the top spot for the upcoming future.

Custom HIView Controls Apple does a poor job of completely describing how to use the myriad of APIs available as part of Carbon on Mac OS X. Many of new and different features of Carbon are really nice and easy to learn, provided you have a proper guide. One particular area that could use a guide is in creating custom controls using the Carbon Event model.
Since the Custom Carbon Controls article was written Apple has introduced a new method of making custom controls that requires even less work than before thanks to a new construct called HIViews. HIView are only available on Mac OS X 10.2 "Jaguar" or newer and in windows with the compositing or metal flag set.

Scripting a Binary Tree Using Tcl I tend to use Tcl extensively because I look at this scripting language as a big tub of Lego bricks. Who doesn't like to play with Legos? To me, Tcl is Legos for the computer programmer. It comes with lots of bricks that snap together, enabling you to build something incredible.
But here's a thought that will surely make the pragmatic C programmer's head spin. I'm going to put the Tcl language to work with managing binary trees. I hope that concept didn't give any of you compiler pilots whiplash.

Reverting to an earlier version of Mac OS X When problems materialize in conjunction with an incremental update to Mac OS X, and all known workarounds have failed, or a critical issue appears that must be resolved immediately, it may be necessary to perform a reversion process and backpedal to the prior incremental version.
