Viewing Secure Websites ... I recently installed Norton Internet Security on my Win ME computer, and quickly uninstalled it because it messed with my network settings.
Blocking websites without a server I've been working at a high school and we're dealing with a problem. Our students are spending important time playing online games and using AIM through the web.
Anyone here use sonic wall ? I have been having problems since day one of the install and may have to scrap this firewall.
Anyone happy or not happy with this unit?

| Recent Articles | Apple And Motorola Prepare iTunes Partnership Apparently, downloadable music for mobile phones is becoming an item of considerable interest. Apple and Motorola have solidified a deal that would allow songs from iTunes to be downloaded and played on compatible phones. Recently, Napster announced they would also be offering downloadable ringtones from their service.
Apple Blocks Real Media From iPod, Tops 200 Million Downloads In a move that will undoubtedly take the rivalry to another level, Apple has indicated that the next generation of iPods will "actively block" attempts by Real Networks to make their format playable on Apple's wunderkind of a tech toy. This heated relationship stems from a development that Real introduced in July that would allow Real format audio files to be played on iPods.
Text Configuration files and XML Configuration files are a problem for both operating systems and applications. Where do you keep them, how are they structured? Traditionally, Unix systems used text files with wildly varying internal structures, and Windows used either binary data or ".ini" text files (in this sense, "binary" is used for anything that you can't access directly with a simple text editor).

Apple and IBM Power ahead together The Power5 hasn't yet arrived in an Apple machine, despite the similarly named PowerPC G5, the Mac's latest, greatest CPU. Apple's G5 is actually based on the Power4 -- except with a single core, a smaller die, less heat, and lower power consumption.
In other words, the PowerPC incarnation of the Power architecture is optimized for smaller machines. And that plan seems to be working better than ever: Apple sold 836,000 PowerPC laptop, desktop, and server systems in its fourth fiscal quarter of 2004. That's no threat to Intel or AMD, but then there are no $400 Macs for sale at Wal-Mart Stores Inc., either. After x86, there is little question as to which CPU architecture will retain the No. 2 slot. (Hint: It's not Itanium 2.)

BBEdit 8.0 -- A Developer's Viewpoint A couple of months ago, Bare Bones software released the eighth version of BBEdit, their popular text editor for the Mac. I've used BBEdit since 1994, and I was excited to get my hands on a new version, since Bare Bones always has something new and cool.
This version does not disappoint, even though I am not excited about all of the new features. I've banged on this latest release for a couple of months, talked to other people using it, and can now affirmatively say that if you aren't using version 8, you are missing out. If you aren't using BBEdit at all, well, you just haven't seen how easy things can be.

CVS Setup Tutorial One of the many advantages to using a UNIX-based operating system is that it includes numerous utilities and other software that provides similar functionality to commercial software apps costing many hundreds of dollars. All of this convenience is sometimes hampered by the requirement to use the Command Line Interface (CLI) to access various software components.
Fortunately once you learn a few commands you can make use of Mac OS X CLI software very easily. This particular article will focus on the setup of the Concurrent Versions System (CVS) included with Mac OS X.

But There's No Software for the Macintosh, Right? About two months ago, I looked at the cost of the Macintosh relative to Dell PCs and discovered that not only are Macs cheaper than PCs once you upgrade the PCs to rough comparability, but the PC line is narrower than Apple's, with Dell offering nothing to compare to the 17-inch Apple powerbook, the X-serve/RAID combination, or Apple's cinema displays.
What seems to happen on pricing is that Apple's inclusion of multimedia capabilities generally missing from the PC skews its price advantage toward the high end.

Apple appoints new head of Mac hardware Apple Computer has moved quickly to fill a void atop its Macintosh Hardware Engineering team, AppleInsider has learned. The company has replaced former vice president of Mac hardware engineering Tim Bucher, who left the company in mid-November, with a onetime executive from Umax Corp.
According to reputable sources, Bucher's replacement is none other than Peter Mehring, former founder of Umax Corporation--once a direct competitor to Apple when it produced Mac clone computers in the mid '90s.
