Office 2004 Could Persuade IT Managers To Reconsider Mac
BusinessWeek has published a review of Microsoft's new Mac office
suite, Office 2004. The reviewer, Stephen H. Wildstrom, says that
the newest version of Office for Mac is a good enough corporate citizen
that it could "persuade some corporate technology managers to take
a fresh look at Apple."
From the review:
Bill Gates used to brag that Microsoft made more money from each Macintosh
sold than Apple Computer did. Apple's hardware is now plenty profitable,
but Microsoft software remains an important part of the Mac ecosystem.
Microsoft's latest effort for the Mac, Office 2004, could even persuade
some corporate technology managers to take a fresh look at Apple.

OS X Support: Harbinger for Mac Enterprise Growth?
Jeff Jones, director of DB2 information management strategy IBM, said
that, while the DB2 database platform does not currently support OS
X, the company is sensitive to market demand. "We're open to supporting
any platform that represents a significant value to our customers,
as we have demonstrated repeatedly," Jones told MacNewsWorld.
Late last month, Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) disclosed that 10g, its flagship
grid-computing database platform, is now compatible with Apple's (Nasdaq:
AAPL) Unix-based Mac OS X . To publicize this news, Oracle and Apple
have jointly launched an international road show -- featuring executives
from both companies -- that will run in five different cities worldwide
over the next several weeks [Blane Warrene, "Apple, Oracle Plan Database
Road Show," MacNewsWorld, May 25, 2004].

The
Mac is Dead, Long Live iPod!
That's the word from a lot of so-called Mac pundits concerning the
news last week that Apple is creating a separate iPod division within
the company. Once again, these guys must be in need of a boost in
readers, because we all know that the easiest way to get those page
views up is to predict the demise of Apple. The Mac Observer's Apple
Death Knell Counter is evidence that a lot of "journalists" recognize
this fact.
So, is Apple dumping the Mac for the iPod? Absolutely, unequivocally,
no! By spinning the iPod into its own division, Apple is ensuring
that iPod development will be as focused as possible to best counter
the upcoming threats from companies like Sony who wish to take a piece
of the iPod pie. Read

In Dreamweaver I tried to add a subtle audible
click to the rollovers on my site, but a new window opens
up to play the .wav in a media player. How can I stop that
from happening? Also, how would I preload the sounds to play
them efficiently?
I am assuming that I may have to use flash, but I am hoping
that dreamweaver has a simple way to do it that I have not
yet found. ...
